Experience

My name is António José Preto, and I am objective-driven, passionate, and constantly search for new challenges. Although my background is in biological sciences, since my Master’s degree I have been working mainly on Data Science.

I have recently submitted my PhD thesis, which has been accepted for defence. My background is in biological sciences and my experience comes mostly from working in the Data-Driven Molecular Design group, at the University of Coimbra. I have two Bachelor’s Degrees (one in Biochemistry and one in Philosophy) as well as one Master’s Degree in Biochemistry. I have various online certificates, focusing mostly on Data Science, Web Development, and Python. I have co-authored 25 research papers of which I am first author of 11.

I am attempting to display that, regardless of my background up until now being in Academia, I am not afraid of tackling new adventures. In 2016, me and a group of friends shared a passion in data science. From there, we founded the first Portuguese junior enterprise focusing on Data Science (JEST).

As a researcher and PhD student at the Data-Driven Molecular Design group, I performed a very wide array of tasks, since I began my journey close to the beginning of the group itself. I learned how to program and ended up contributing to over 10 repositories on GitHub and, recently, I published my own Python package (DrugTax). During this period, I had the privilege of mentoring multiple Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree students, as well as working with overall amazing colleagues.
