Sr DevOps Engineer
VisitedMe is kinda cool. We build techie stuff for non-techie people - eCommerce marketers. They break it. We build it better. They request “cooler” stuff that drives revenue for them. We find intelligent ways to build that stuff to scale. It pays the bills, it’s interesting work, and it’s growing fast. There’s a LOT of data involved, a scalable infrastructure, a PhD physicist who worked at CERN on the LHC, a CEO who worked at JetBrains and ZeroTurnaround, billion-dollar companies as partners, and the desire to build, operate, and grow intelligently.
ABOUT THE POSITION
This is a remote position.
We’re building a scalable platform using the latest technologies and best practices. Our technical founding team has a lot of experience building platforms and we are strong believers and practitioners of unit & integration testing, continuous integration & delivery, containerisation, and micro services.
Some of these points are aspirational – the rush of a start up has prevented us from following every best practice by the letter, although we have made sure to lay the foundations for you to pick up the work and take us further.
For instance, we are using containers and continuous integration but we’re not currently deploying continuously, at least not by the book. This is where you come in, with your experience in “dev ops”, to take our work to the next level by:
★ Making our platform more scalable
★ Architect continuous deployment
★ Audit security best practices
★ Audit our backup and disaster recovery strategy
★ Automate things that are too manual
★ Reviewing our platform, implementing improvements, and teaching us about how to improve it further
While formal education is great, experience and a track record of running production platforms trumps all. If you like to architect better platforms - you'll be a good fit.
REQUIRED SKILLS
★ Docker
★ Kubernetes or Docker Swarm
★ Cloud provider: AWS, GCP or equivalent (but ideally at least a good exposure to one of these two)
★ Production experience with an online platform of meaningful size (i.e. at least a handful of nodes and a dozen or more services)
★Load balancing, service scaling
★ Database partitioning, scaling
* Postgres a plus
* No-SQL or SQL that lends itself to event ingestion and processing a plus
★ Security
* TLS, CA, certificate handling
* Patches, ongoing security maintenance
* Docker & security (image audits)
★ Version control
* Git
* Bitbucket / github – pull requests, CI setups
★ Configuration management
★ Monitoring
★ Logging
★ Integration testing
★ Development and automation
* Experience building micro services or web services in general
* REST, JSON
* Python a plus
* Ansible/chef or equivalent
★ Platform
* Unix (Windows is an uphill struggle with us…)
★ Other
