Senior Engineer
Octane AI is a venture-backed bots, messaging, and artificial intelligence startup seeking a senior Python engineer to lead the development of core features and is interested in building the future of bots and artificial intelligence.
We are a team of experienced and battle-tested entrepreneurs with domain expertise in technology and deep ties in Silicon Valley. Our founders consists of Matt Schlicht (2x Forbes 30 Under 30, YC alum, Ustream's first product manager, founder of Tracks.by and Chatbots Magazine), Ben Parr (Forbes 30 Under 30, author of Captivology, former Co-Editor of Mashable, Lufthansa board member, investor/advisor uBeam, Shots, Ustream, AngelHack) and Leif K-Brooks (founder and creator of Omegle, the largest chat platform of its kind, used by millions daily). Our product makes it easy for anyone to create a bot in minutes and is used by superstar musicians (Maroon 5, Aerosmith, 50 Cent), big brands, and small business owners.
You will be in charge of creating and iterating on many of Octane AI’s core features. You will work directly alongside Leif, helping build the back-end technology for the core Octane AI experience, and you will work closely with our Head of Product Megan Berry on the product. You will be a critical member of the team with a lot of freedom.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of Octane AI’s core features in Python. You will be the main person in charge of building cutting-edge bot, messaging, and AI technologies. Every challenge will be at your fingertips, from NLP to scaling for the millions of people who interact with our bots.
- Work with the founders and the head of product to design and implement core features and back-end architecture. While development in Python will be your focus, a jack-of-all-trades engineer comfortable with JavaScript and the Facebook API is ideal for this role.
- Transform our PRDs and your ideas into scalable products and features. You will have the power to guide the direction of the company and the (many) features we build.
- Work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced startup environment. Be flexible enough to take on any task.
Requirements:
- 3-8+ years of Python development work. The ideal candidate is a top-tier developer who is comfortable in a startup environment -- AKA putting out fires, learning on-the-fly, and thrives on change and new challenges.
- Self-starter with a knack for always finding something to accomplish. We are a remote team with employees all over the world. You must be a self-starter, because we don’t have time to handhold you. You should be self-motivated to build great products and achieve excellence.
- A desire to grow into a leadership role at Octane AI.

- ES6/ES7 (latest version of JavaScript aka ECMAScript)

- Experience working with the Facebook API

- $50K – $125K
