Data Scientist

At Zoomi Inc., we’ve created the next generation of performance optimization technology, by bringing together the disciplines of machine learning, predictive analytics and adaptive learning. We’re looking for a top-notch Data Scientist to join Zoomi’s global team and help us expand our suite of artificial intelligence algorithms for (human) learning.

In your role, you will:

  • Use data mining to discover information hidden within large datasets
  • Build, optimize, and evaluate predictors using machine learning techniques
  • Coordinate with developers in transferring new algorithms to production
  • Present data analysis results to existing and prospective clients

More specifically you’ll:

  • Analyze datasets consisting of clickstream measurements and social discussions generated by learners, and course content created by instructors
  • Apply regression analysis to discover relationships between learning behavior and performance
  • Tailor discriminative and generative machine learning algorithms to the science of learning
  • Collaborate with the development team weekly, providing pseudocode and/or code of new methods that will be transferred to production systems
  • Join calls with clients as needed to discuss current areas of exploration specific to their datasets
  • Write technical reports, presentations, and white papers of results

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science / Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related, with a focus on machine learning and data mining topics, or
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience with data science on real datasets
  • Ability to identify relationships within large datasets that are not obviously related
  • Solid programming experience with Python, Matlab, or R, and with Java, C, or C++
  • Working knowledge of database technologies such as SQL
  • Strong passion and enthusiasm for learning technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Additional, preferred qualifications include:

  • Doctoral degree in Computer Science or related, with an emphasis on data science research
  • Knowledge and experience with distributed computing technologies (e.g., AWS, Hadoop, Spark)
  • Prior experience working with learning technologies and/or datasets from learning scenarios (such as in higher education, corporate training, etc.)
  • Product and business development experience
