• Spearheaded the design and workflow for web crawlers using Apache Nutch and Scrapy. The data is being used by teams across the company for analysis/evaluation purposes. Also contributed to open source by providing a patch for a bug in Nutch 2.3.
• Designed and implemented new features for an internal analysis tool using web applications in Django(Python) and Javascript, HTML. This is important for analyzing and exploring data relevant to an article like word count, title, h1, outlinks, robots tag, etc.
• Worked on AWS ec2 instance, including S3, which also involved environment setups from scratch.
• Gained exposure to Hadoop and HDFS, fetching useful data from Hbase database by developing MapReduce jobs in Java.
• Extensively worked on databases – Mongodb, Postgresql and MySql and performed database migration through Sqlalchemy(Python) scripts to extract, parse and load (ETL). Also implemented functional score metrics.
