Junior Engineer

North America (not Earth)

Open Energy Efficiency is looking for engineers to help support the development and deployment of the OpenEEmeter platform and related software tools. The OpenEEmeter provides a way to calculate energy efficiency savings in buildings and is particularly well-suited for supporting pay for performance programs where utilities procure energy efficiency as a grid resource, similar to solar or battery storage. Our company deploys “enterprise” versions of the OpenEEmeter platform for utilities and energy efficiency companies to help measure and manage energy efficiency resources. With deployments across North America and a growing backlog of new customers, we are searching for talented, committed engineers who want to build meaningful, powerful software products.

We encourage prospective candidates to examine the OpenEEmeter source code, which is available for inspection on Github (https://github.com/openeemeter/eemeter). We make this code available under an open-source license to make sure that two parties looking at the same data can get the same savings measurement (seems like a small thing, but it’s the first of its kind!). Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have been able to download and run the module and who have something helpful to say about how we can make it better.

You will join our core team in its work to scale the entire stack: from the ETL pipeline, to our core computation engine, to the outputs we deliver to our customers. Experience with Python, Airflow, and data visualization tools are big pluses but show us a passion for producing high quality code and you’ll be considered. Strong SQL skills are also valuable. Although we value utility industry familiarity in candidates, any candidate with a unique set of relevant experiences can distinguish themselves.

Our team is distributed, so we do not have a traditional office format. Applicants must be self-motivated and able to thrive in a remote working environment. As such, we especially prize transparency, collaboration, and communication -- both written and verbal. We consider and welcome candidates whose backgrounds and thinking challenge the traditional definition of software engineers. We value curiosity, inclusivity and non-conformist thought that generates results.

If you want to help us save the planet, we want to hear from you!
