Machine Learning Intern

Amboss Technologies is a data analytics company focused on the Bitcoin Lightning Network. Our products include a lightning explorer, a channel marketplace, and a data API. Our employees work remotely to build the gold standard of analytics for Lightning.

About The Role

We are looking for a Machine Learning Intern to help us develop our ML and Simulation Frameworks. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize Machine Learning and Graph Algorithms to identify the value of channels, optimize payment success probabilities, and provide new channels recommendations. The position will work alongside our Senior Data Scientist in developing and validating a pathfinding benchmark as well as simulating payments. Other projects include establishing service level agreements and a gym-style reinforcement learning environment for optimizing node operator decisions. This position will work closely with the Amboss software and data analytics teams to improve node operations and further academic understanding. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to and co-author academic publications resulting from ourongoing research initiatives

This is an 8-week internship with the potential for permanent placement based on performance and company needs.

Essential Functions

  • Design and implement a strategic Machine Learning approach for optimizing operator decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain robust standards for documentation and reporting.
  • Create and present reports on key findings to the rest of the Amboss teams.
  • Design and maintain a data collection strategy via payment probes.
  • Provide Network and payment simulation to optimize pathfinding and route success.
  • Develop strategies using machine learning for nodes on the Lightning Network.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience with Machine Learning and Neural Networks (NNs), using libraries such as Scikit-learn, Tensorflow, Pytorch, etc. 
  • Strong fundamentals in algorithm design and analysis, including shortest path, and minimum cost flow solvers.
  • 1+ years experience developing and consuming REST/gRPC APIs (preferably in Python, using an API framework like Django, Hug, Flask, etc)
  • Knowledge of Lightning Network simulation tools such asCLoTH,Polar, and/orLNSIMa big plus.
  • Knowledge of bitcoin, the lightning network, and Amboss platform are a big plus.

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in CS, Math or similar discipline. 
  • Demonstrated interest in Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning or Graph Theory, through projects, coursework, or extracurricular activities is a big plus.
  • Proficiency with presentations and research writing required.
  • Peer-reviewed publications or other writings are a plus.
  • Running your own Lightning node is a big plus.
