Computer Vision & Machine Learning Engineer

We are Fast Rope Labs, a Washington, DC tech startup working on amazing products and experiences at the intersection of hardware and software. We've built IoT, wearable, big data, and mobile products used by thousands of customers for consumer brands (such as Keurig), government agencies (such as the US State Department), cities (such as Boston), non-profits (such as Network for Good), destinations (such as Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino) and other well-known startups (such as Upside Travel). We also build insanely awesome health and fitness technology for use in CrossFit gyms and by amateur and professional athletes, alike. Our team consists of proven founders who have raised $10s of millions in funding from TechStars and other well-known VC and PE investors, have been featured in TechCrunch and CNN, have successfully exited previous startups and participated in a near-billion dollar IPO, and who teach at Georgetown and George Washington Universities. We're putting the Silicon in Silicon Hill, and we're looking for elite talent to fuel our growth.

Who are you?

You are an engineering rockstar who has been itching for the opportunity to flex your computer vision and machine learning muscles on amazing consumer-facing products. You live, breathe, and sleep on rapid prototyping image processing algorithms, figuring out projective transformations for multi-view geometries, fusing data from sensors, architecting stochastic and ML models for difficult classification problems, and promoting production-grade code to AWS backends built for scale. You can simultaneously tame scikit-image and TensorFlow while eating your lunch. You haven’t met an edge you couldn’t detect. Building a scalable facial recognition API using Amazon Rekognition is a weekend project. Your GitHub repo is more impressive than your résumé. You believe you can make an immediate impact on our team; you’re willing to work harder than you’ve ever worked before; and you fit the following profile:

• Graduate degree in CS, CpE, or EE, 2-3 years of experience, and 20 hours of availability per week
• Experience experimenting with edge detection and image segmentation approaches using Python scikit-image, Matlab, or other image processing libraries
• Experience with projective transformation in multi-view geometries
• Experience with computer vision and deep learning solutions, including Amazon Rekognition and Google Vision
• Experience with cloud video transcoding, including AWS Elastic Transcoder
• Experience with machine learning platforms, including TensorFlow or Amazon ML
• Experience architecting data models and munging data from SQL and noSQL databases
• Experience deploying to AWS cloud infrastructure, and familiarity with EC2, S3, Redshift, and RDS
• Experience working within Agile and Scrum software development teams
• A willingness to jump right in and help with almost any task in a startup environment

What’s your mission?

• Developing experimental and prototype edge detection and image segmentation approaches for consumer sports, fitness, and healthcare applications
• Developing experimental and prototype approaches for projective transformation using fused image and sensor data from
• Developing experimental deep learning approaches for image recognition tasks
• Architecting a scalable, production-grade AWS solution for low latency computer vision apps
• Modeling, munging, processing, and visualizing data from SQL and NoSQL databases in Python
• Prototyping full stack JS and Python web apps to demo computer vision and ML functionality

Compensation

  • $80K – $120K
  • No Equity
